This is a blank piece of White cotton for making a sashiko handkerchief with your own design. There are three layers of fabric. The top and bottom layers are a gauzy cotton, and the middle layer has a metallic element that helps prevent mold and odors.
It's very common to carry a soft handkerchief in Japan as the climate can range from rain to snow to hot and humid, so it's practical to have something handy for wiping your hands or face.
The fabric measures approximately 7.75" x 7.75" (20 cm x 20 cm) when completed. Important: Please read care instructions before starting the project.
We suggest using a thinner thread (embroidery or thin sashiko) for this, rather than thicker sashiko threads, but it depends on your design. Thick thread will bulk up and pull the cloth more than thin thread, which should leave a smoother finish.
