$5 flat rate shipping within the US
What is Kendo? It's a traditional Japanese martial art that involves using wooden or bamboo swords. This type of thick fabric is used for gi (uniforms) which provide protection from bruising sword blows.
This is one of our most premium fabrics and highly coveted. Washed/faded/vintage appearance, but it's fresh and new. It's thick, substantial and weighty, dyed with natural indigo, and feels amazing.
The mill that produces this fabric has been making this type of fabric for decades, and is one of the few left in Japan.
It was difficult to capture the true color so we have included soft indoor diffused light as well as indoor direct/slanted light to give you the closest representation of this deep, spiritual navy hue.
NOTE: Minimum cut starts at 0.5yd for this fabric due fabric type or print. Fat Quarters not available for purchase.
Available in yardage or swatches. Swatches are approximately 4" x 3".
Important notes about botanically dyed indigo:
Natural indigo may BLEED onto your laundry and other clothing, so please be aware and wash separately. Even when dry, indigo may rub off onto other cloth but should wash out.
Please note that naturally dyed indigo fabrics will FADE over time with exposure to sunlight. We do not suggest this fabric for curtains or outdoor decor, but it could be used for a hat that is stored indoors when not in use.
