Kaiawase (貝合わせ) was a popular pastime in the Edo period of Japan, during which a number of shells would be divided into two boxes and one group is taken out, then matched one at a time to the halves from the second box. This fabric features mixed flowers in shells with faux "kanoko" shibori in fuchsia with purple and red.
