Ichimatsu is a traditional Japanese pattern, made of two contrasting colors in an alternating style to create a striking visual impact. While the pattern goes back to the middle ages, the name was derived from the Kabuki actor, Sanogawa Ichimatsu. He lived during the Edo period (1603-1868), was famous for wearing a distinctive checkered kimono.
This checkerboard print comes in black and gray, but is also available in other colors as shown in the last listing photo, please check our shop for availability.
